Opposite the Stralau peninsula lies Rummelsburg Bay. On the banks of the Spree, market gardens, fisheries and a dairy developed just outside Berlin. In the second half of the 19th century, an orphanage, the municipal workhouse and the Rummelsburg prison were built here alongside industrial enterprises. We will experience village romance, big city flair and industrial icons where young families are now moving in. You will learn about the history of one of Berlin's most notorious prisons and the depressing biographies of so-called "asocials". But you also learn about the impressive ways in which they are remembered today. We also repeatedly stray towards the Spree and the harbour, which gives our tour, despite its proximity to the urban hustle and bustle, the flair of a country party on the water.
